Healthy & Fun Activities for Teens

Healthy and fun activities for teens may sound like a lot of work for some and easy peasy for others. For me, I lean more on a lot of work on my end. I have 1 young adult, 2 teens, and 1 child. Rounding them up to do an activity isn’t always a unanimous hooray. But I still want to keep them busy and active. However, this past year and a half, it has been a challenge to go outdoors. We have been indoors most of the time, mostly to stay safe. Cabin fever has hit us many days, and tensions have risen on other days.  I refuse to call…

Journey to Healing – Meal Plan

My journey to healing meal plan will be a tough act to follow compared to my already restrictive diet. I will not have the option of a variety of meals to select from. I will have to cook most of my meals; no more grab-and-go items at the store. Once again, I will have to watch others each more food I wish I could have (I’m crying inside). I will have to remind myself of the bigger picture. This is just temporary. When my inflammation is gone, I can begin to reintegrate my old foods slowly… And maybe some new food. When I feel discouraged, I will recite, “I can…

    Journey to Healing – Supplements

Before we begin, my supplements are prescribed and recommended based on my needs by my functional medicine doctor. Seek approval first from your physician before starting any new supplements or vitamins. Let’s begin… THIS one is a doozy, people! I currently take supplements and medicines to assist with my dietary restrictions and stomach problems. I am allergic to wheat and dairy and can’t process poultry, red meat or large amounts of fish. Occasionally when I eat fruits or vegetables, or too much sugar and sweets, or at times fried foods, my Irritable Bowel Syndrome is triggered. After the results of my tests and the shorts list of foods I’m allowed…

    Journey to Healing – Diet

The Journey to Healing Diet will be the Number One most difficult to adjust to in my healing plan. I’ve been changing and modifying my diet for 26 years. I’m used to experimenting with foods and adding/removing food groups. I take my time with these adjustments and slowly integrate them. This time, it feels more like take everything away NOW. No options for a cheat day or treating yourself for sticking with it. After reviewing the results of my food sensitivity tests, everything I currently eat (and more!) is causing inflammation in my body. For the next three months or possibly more, the Journey to Healing Food List is the ONLY…

    Meditation – Healing in Silence

I believe meditation is healing in silence. This is why it’s my next action step. Along with prayer, I believe meditation is a powerful healing tool for wellness. I will follow the acronym R.E.B.O.S (Relax, Envision, Breathe, Organize, Speak): Relax – If I am relaxed, my body can work on healing and restoration. Envision – Relaxed, I can envision the road before me. I am healthier, stronger, and completely healed. Breathe with intention – Taking time to breathe helps to quiet the mind. Organize my thoughts – With a quiet mind, you can organize your thoughts. Thinking positive thoughts of healing and recovery. Speak words of affirmation – Speaking them…

    Adding exercise… Ugh…

Adding exercise, by far, will be the second most difficult change to implement into my life. I have never made exercise a priority, and I now understand the need to add to my new routine. Here are the facts keeping me motivated and the plan that will get me started. Benefits of Exercise I’ve always known exercise is good and important for my health. I’m sure you know it as well. We see it in advertisements, commercials and our doctors remind us. We are told exercise helps us lose weight, increases our energy, promotes better sleep, and can be a great bonding activity with family or friends. Did you know…
